A Malaysian entrepreneur has developed a portable coconut husking tool designed to improve safety, labor efficiency, and post-harvest handling for the coconut industry. Originally created to reduce workplace injuries associated with machete use, the prototype cuts husking time from two to three minutes to about one minute per coconut, allowing skilled workers to process up to 50–60 coconuts per hour without additional labor.

Weighing approximately 3.5 kg, the portable device enables coconuts to be husked directly in plantations, reducing transportation costs. It also allows users to control husking depth, leaving part of the husk attached to help maintain freshness and extend shelf life according to market requirements.

Built initially from recycled materials, the tool is being further refined with plans to incorporate an electric motor, foot-operated switch, adjustable blades, and a foldable design. Although still at the prototype stage, it has already attracted interest from local entrepreneurs. The inventor plans to seek government support for product improvement, intellectual property protection, and patent registration, with the goal of commercializing the innovation and expanding into international markets while supporting Malaysia’s downstream coconut industry.
