Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce is implementing measures to stabilize domestic coconut prices as increased production places downward pressure on farmer incomes. Processors have purchased more than 11 million locally produced coconuts, exceeding the government’s initial procurement target, with buying concentrated in major producing provinces.
To provide broader support, the government plans to introduce an additional market-price procurement program for farmers not yet covered by existing purchasing schemes. Authorities also face challenges in helping growers meet export requirements, including Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), monkey-free harvesting certification, and traceability standards.
Thailand’s coconut production is forecast to reach 608 million nuts in 2026, with peak harvests in July and August expected to increase market supply. In response, the Department of Foreign Trade has urged processors and importers to prioritize domestic coconuts and temporarily reduce imports during the harvest season.
Coconut imports have already declined by more than 60% year-on-year in the first five months of 2026. The government is also strengthening oversight of imports exceeding WTO quotas to balance processors’ raw material needs with the interests of domestic coconut growers.
