PH premium pineapple reaches Middle East markets
June 30, 2026 | Philippine News Agency |
The Philippines has expanded exports of its premium MD2 pineapples to the United Arab Emirates, with an initial shipment of 18 metric tons arriving in late June. Sourced from farms in South Cotabato, the shipment marks continued efforts to strengthen the country's presence in the Middle East and diversify agricultural export markets beyond traditional destinations.
The MD2 variety, recognized for its sweetness, low acidity, and golden flesh, is expected to be shipped to the UAE every two weeks, reflecting sustained demand in the region. The initiative is part of the Department of Agriculture’s strategy to increase farmers’ incomes by expanding market access, strengthening agricultural value chains, and promoting high-value tropical fruits.
The export program also supports the government's broader objective of reducing reliance on existing export markets by increasing trade with Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Coordinated through the Philippine Agricultural Attaché Office in Dubai, the initiative aims to strengthen trade linkages and create new opportunities for Philippine fresh produce in the rapidly growing Middle Eastern food market.
