Sarawak to have Malaysia’s largest pineapple processing factory in Tukau

July 15, 2026 | Borneo Post Online |

Sarawak is developing Malaysia’s largest integrated pineapple processing factory to strengthen the state’s pineapple industry and expand market opportunities for growers. The RM70 million facility, located in Tukau near Miri, is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026 and will include fresh fruit grading and packaging, juice production, and canning lines.

The factory will source pineapples from both company-owned plantations and smallholders in northern Sarawak through a contract farming system. Farmers will receive technical guidance, quality standards, and guaranteed market access under supply agreements, helping ensure consistent raw material supply while improving production quality. To fully utilize the factory’s capacity, approximately 6,000 acres of pineapple production will be required, creating significant opportunities for small-scale growers.

The project forms part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to develop 20,000 hectares of pineapple plantations and establish additional processing facilities in Mukah and Kuching, creating a statewide supply chain. Authorities expect the integrated processing network to improve market stability, generate rural employment, increase farmer incomes, and support value-added products such as pineapple juice, canned fruit, planting materials, and biomass. The privately funded factory is also expected to create around 300 jobs.
