Fruit exports to UK under way

July 28, 2026 | Taipei Times |

Taiwanese fruit exporters are expanding their presence in the UK, with a shipment of more than one tonne of premium produce sent to fruit retailers and Asian supermarkets. The shipment included wax apples, passion fruit, dragon fruit, melons, guavas, mangoes, and pineapples sourced from several major production regions across Taiwan.

The export reflects Taiwan’s broader strategy to diversify agricultural export destinations and develop high-end overseas markets. Following expanded European market access for Taiwanese fruits, exporters have increasingly targeted the UK. Earlier shipments of Irwin mangoes and black-leaf lychees sold out quickly, indicating strong consumer demand for Taiwanese produce.

To maintain freshness and quality, fruits are sorted, graded, washed, and packaged according to product requirements before undergoing quarantine procedures. Cold-chain air freight allows shipments to reach UK customs within one to two days after harvest. The produce is then distributed through wholesale markets, Asian supermarkets, hotels, and catering businesses.

Exporters plan to introduce Taiwanese pomelos to the UK after September and continue arranging shipments according to seasonal supply and market demand.
