Vietnamese dragonfruit exports dip following prolonged rains

Vietnam’s dragon fruit exports declined 3% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, as prolonged rainfall reduced harvest volumes. Growers in Lam Dong reported yields about 10% lower than the previous year.
Despite reduced production, strong demand has driven a significant recovery in prices. Since May, farm-gate prices for white-fleshed dragon fruit have doubled to VND15,000 per kilogram, while red-fleshed varieties have risen to VND20,000 per kilogram. Growers who were previously selling at a loss are now earning profits of around VND3,000–4,000 per kilogram. Retail prices have also increased, reaching VND25,000 per kilogram for white-fleshed fruit and VND40,000 for red-fleshed varieties.
Vietnam currently has approximately 55,000–60,000 hectares of dragon fruit cultivation, producing around 1.4 million tonnes annually. However, production has declined in recent years as prolonged periods of low prices encouraged some farmers to switch to more profitable crops. The combination of lower output and continued market demand is now supporting improved prices and profitability for remaining dragon fruit growers.
