Conducted by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran, this study delves into the therapeutic properties of xanthones from mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana) and their applications in diabetes and related complications. Recognizing diabetes as a prevalent health concern, the research explores the physiological effects of mangosteen xanthones, including antiobesity, antihyperglycemic, antidyslipidemia, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Drawing from extensive database searches, the study comprehensively reviews in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and clinical pharmacological effects, shedding light on molecular pathways associated with diabetes mellitus and its complications. The findings underscore the significant potential of mangosteen fruit and its xanthones in guiding the design of human studies aimed at controlling and modifying diabetes mellitus and related diseases.
