Taiwanese pineapples are expected to enter the US market in 2027, following the announcement of import requirements by the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in March 2026. Taiwan has completed the necessary administrative procedures and is awaiting formal notification from US authorities, potentially before the pineapple harvest season begins in February.
The US has accepted pineapple varieties containing more than 50% Cayenne genetics as non-hosts for certain quarantine pests, allowing golden diamond and mango pineapples to enter without special quarantine treatments. Golden diamond pineapples account for approximately 90% of Taiwan’s production and are expected to be exported first. The government has prepared 50 hectares for US-bound production and plans to promote mango pineapples because of their better storage and transportation characteristics.
Taiwan has also expanded its pineapple exports to other markets, including Japan, Canada, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia. Exports to Japan reached 15,700 tonnes this year, while shipments to Canada, South Korea, and Australia increased substantially.
The government is continuing efforts to expand international market access for other Taiwanese fruits, including mangoes, dragon fruit, lychees, guavas, and jujubes.
