Đắk Lắk to sustainably develop durian trees

November 10, 2023 | Viet Nam News |

Farmers in Đắk Lắk, Vietnam, are celebrating a successful durian harvest, with high yields, favorable prices, and substantial profits. The demand for durian has been strong, resulting in high prices and significant earnings for growers. However, challenges have emerged, including price volatility, lax enforcement of planting area codes, and dispersed, small-scale durian cultivation zones. Logistical expenditures are high, constituting 30% of overall costs. The province has endorsed 49 planting area codes, covering 2,186 hectares, but there have been instances of code misrepresentation and breaches in plant quarantine. To address these challenges, there is a call for enhanced oversight, adherence to codes, and sustainable cultivation practices.
