Pomelo exports soar as New Zealand, US start buying
October 26, 2023 | VnExpress |
Pomelo exports from Vietnam have surged, reaching $29.6 million in the first eight months of the year, marking a 144% year-on-year increase. Previously, pomelos were exported primarily to the EU and the Middle East, but since the end of 2022, shipments to the U.S. and New Zealand have begun. The improved quality of Vietnam's green-skin pomelo has contributed to its popularity in various countries. Despite facing competition from China and Mexico in the U.S. market, Vietnamese pomelos are gaining traction due to their quality. This year, Vietnam's pomelo exports to the U.S. have seen a significant increase each quarter. Fresh pomelo is now the seventh fruit that Vietnam exports to the U.S., joining mango, longan, lychee, dragon fruit, rambutan, and star apple. The Plant Protection Department reported that pomelos from Vietnam are now exported to 12 countries and territories.
