Burdwan tries its luck in producing `3L-per-kg mango variety

The East Burdwan zilla parishad in Bengal is set to cultivate the Miyazaki variety of mango, known as the world's costliest. The zilla parishad has allocated land and funds, aiming to accumulate wealth through this venture. The Miyazaki mango, usually found in Japan, gained attention in India when it was sold for Rs 3 lakh per kg in Birbhum. After discovering the fruit in Birbhum, authorities in East Burdwan decided to explore the possibility of cultivating it in their region. Similar soil type and climate conditions led to the decision. The zilla parishad has allocated Rs 1.20 crore for cultivating Miyazaki plants on its land, with plans to set up mango gardens equipped with solar water pumps and illumination.
