China to get fresh, not frozen, Malaysian durians, expected from 2024

Malaysian durian farmers can export fresh durians to China from next year, shifting from frozen fruit. The move aligns with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations. Deputy Minister Chan Foong Hin emphasized the need to explore new markets due to increased durian supply. Malaysia submitted the export protocol to China in August, focusing on mature, ripe fruits with shorter shelf life. The protocol must address this challenge. Current exports involve frozen durians, with discussions ongoing for air cargo and shipping options. Durian harvest growth has lowered prices, benefiting consumers. Plans include a dedicated durian department and a unique Malaysian durian logo for differentiation.
