Warmer winter may affect mango yield in Karnataka

Bengaluru is expected to experience temperatures 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal this winter due to the El Niño effect, eliminating the usual biting cold. The warmer conditions could impact the flowering and yield of mangoes, known as the "king of fruits," which typically occurs in December. The El Niño effect is predicted to result in day temperatures being one degree Celsius above normal and night temperatures being two degrees Celsius above normal. The city recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 31.2 and 20.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, deviating from the normal temperatures of 26.9 and 16.4 degrees Celsius for the season. The impact on mango flowering is being monitored, and a technical committee meeting will discuss the climatic conditions and determine the next steps.
