China's huge demand sees Cambodia's renowned longan exports surge before Lunar New Year

A Chinese company in Pailin province is exporting over 100 tonnes of Pailin longan daily to China ahead of the Lunar New Year. Utilizing modern technology, including automated sorting and packaging, they meet rising demand. Prices in December 2023 ranged from 3,000 to 3,600 riel per kilogram, considered favorable. Despite a 40% decrease in export prices to China compared to 2022, increased orders are attributed to Lunar New Year preparations. The Cambodia-China Longan Phytosanitary Protocol, signed in 2022, facilitated exports. In 2023, Cambodia exported longans worth $24.76 million, primarily to China. Pailin longans, named after the province bordering Thailand, are prized for their quality.
