Mango farmers in erstwhile Mahabubnagar hope for better days ahead

A Cluster Development Programme (CDP) for mango farmers in Mahabubnagar, delayed for three years, is set to begin this monsoon. Implemented by the National Horticulture Board (NHB) and led by the Telangana State Horticulture Development Corporation (TSHDCL), the CDP aims to enhance pre and post-production practices, marketing, and branding. Prasad Seeds Private Limited will execute the project, focusing on capacitating farmers, infrastructure development, technology adoption, branding, and export promotion. The program encompasses stakeholders across the value chain, including farmers, traders, processors, and exporters. Covering Mahabubnagar and nearby districts, the CDP classifies clusters based on cultivation area into mega, midi, and mini, with the Mahabubnagar mango cluster categorized as mega, eligible for up to Rs. 100 crore in financial assistance.
