Vietnam’s Musang King durian price doubles in 6 months
March 08, 2024 | VnExpress |
As the Musang King durian harvest season begins in Vietnam, prices have surged to around VND400,000 per kilogram, doubling since October. Traders in the Mekong Delta region are paying between VND380,000 to VND430,000 for top-quality fruit, marking a significant recovery from previous price drops. Low supply amid high export demand drives the price increase. Customers from various countries including Russia, the U.S., Germany, and Dubai are seeking Vietnamese Musang King durians. Some farmers have ceased cultivation due to unproductive crops and adverse weather conditions, impacting supply. Vietnam's durian exports soared to $2.3 billion in 2023, with China accounting for 91% of total exports, reflecting the fruit's growing significance in the country's agricultural economy.
