Thailand aims to export one million tonnes of durian, valued at 130 billion baht, predominantly to China. Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao directs efforts to ensure durian quality meets China's standards, involving stakeholders from farmers to exporters. Quality control measures include phytosanitary certificates and irrigation management in key durian-producing provinces like Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Trat. The Agriculture Department seeks to lower input costs for farmers and tackles the issue of durian smuggling by establishing a dedicated task force. With over 64,000 hectares of durian orchards registered and certified under China's Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Thailand anticipates smooth exports to its largest market, underscoring the importance of maintaining the reputation of Thai durian.
