Despite low prices due to oversupply, Thai mangosteen is selling well in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). Oanh, a merchant at Xom Moi market, notes improved quality this year, selling 30-50 kilograms daily. Imported mangosteen prices have dropped to VND100,000-200,000 per kilogram. Lan Anh, another seller, confirms Thai mangosteen's popularity over local varieties. A wholesale market in Thu Duc City has imported 260 tons recently and expects further price drops with increased imports.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese mangosteen prices are up 15% due to low supply, with the season just starting. Demand for peeled unripe mangosteen, used in chicken salad, has also risen. Mangosteen is grown in Can Tho, Binh Duong, Ben Tre, and several other provinces. Thailand, with 80,000 hectares, remains a leading global producer.
