Imported Thai fruit prices plummet on rising supply

Thai fruits, including mangosteen, mini durian, snake fruit, and rambutan, are 30-40% cheaper in Vietnam compared to last year due to a high supply. Mangosteen and langsat sell for VND55,000-60,000 per kilogram, while rambutan sells for VND45,000-60,000. Premium fruits like snake fruit and mini durian are also down 40%. Wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City are stocked with large quantities of Thai fruits. Increased supply from Thailand, better quality compared to Vietnamese crops, and reduced shipping costs contribute to the price drop. Vietnam's fruit imports from Thailand rose 5% year-on-year in the first four months of 2024.
