Mango exports halve due to high freight charges, space crunch

Mango exporters in Bangladesh are facing challenges with a significant drop in exports this season, blaming high air freight costs and limited cargo space. Despite strong demand in Asia, Europe, and America, exports have halved compared to last year's peak. The government's reduction of export incentives from 15% to 10% adds to exporters' woes. Last year's record export of 3,920 tonnes contrasts sharply with this year's 2,123 tonnes by July, highlighting the current downturn. The Exportable Mango Production Project (EMAP) aims to enhance mango quality and production, crucial amidst export hurdles.
