Taiwanese mango mania is here

June 08, 2024 | The Star |

Taiwan’s Tainan mangoes, featuring varieties like Aiwen, Jin Huang, and Shih Tzu, have been introduced to Malaysian Aeon supermarkets, delighting mango enthusiasts with their rich aroma, sweetness, and low fiber content. The launch event, held at Aeon Mid Valley, was led by Tainan mayor Huang Weizhe and attended by Taiwan’s minister to Malaysia, Bu Zhengmin, Aeon representatives, and trading companies from both nations.

A highlight of the event was the "Tainan Mango Ice Mountain," a dessert made from juicy cubes of Aiwen, Jin Huang, and Shih Tzu mangoes, inspired by the "Tainan Mango Ice" which CNN recently recognized as one of the world’s Top 10 desserts. Malaysian media and internet celebrities who attended the event were treated to this dessert, sparking a buying frenzy in Aeon supermarkets.

Each mango variety offers a unique taste experience: the Aiwen has a sweet and sour balance, while Jin Huang and Shih Tzu are known for their pure sweetness and fine fiber. Aeon members have the opportunity to enjoy Tainan mango tastings during Members’ Day until July 14.

For those preferring online shopping, local distributor Natural House Taiwan & Japan has partnered with e-commerce platforms to offer cross-border ordering and delivery of "Tainan Mango Treasure Boxes." Chen Zhongjie, deputy director of the Tainan city government agriculture bureau, expressed confidence that Taiwan’s agricultural products would continue to be popular with Malaysian consumers.

The event underscores the growing agricultural trade between Taiwan and Malaysia, highlighting the appeal of Taiwanese mangoes in international markets and the collaborative efforts to bring premium agricultural products to global consumers.
