Malaysia is promoting itself as a prime food tourism destination with a focus on durian, the "King of Fruits." In response to growing global interest, Tourism Malaysia has launched “Durian Tourism Packages 2024/2025,” featuring 62 packages from 27 tour operators across 12 states. These packages offer diverse activities like durian tastings, river rafting, jungle hikes, and city tours.
The promotion capitalizes on durian's rising popularity and Malaysia’s ideal growing conditions. The country, a top producer of high-quality durian, aims to attract international visitors and boost tourism revenue. With durian imports surging globally, reaching $10 billion by 2028, Malaysia’s new packages cater to food enthusiasts and offer unique cultural experiences.
Tourism Malaysia expects significant economic impact, projecting nearly half a million dollars in sales by 2025. This initiative aligns with the broader trend of food-centric travel experiences, providing a blend of culinary delight and exploration. The campaign is designed to enhance Malaysia’s tourism profile and support local industries by leveraging the global fascination with durian.
