Indonesia to speed up durian exports to China
July 23, 2024 | Xinhua |
The Indonesian government is accelerating durian exports from Central Sulawesi to China due to high demand. Central Sulawesi, with 30,000 hectares of durian plantations and over 3 million trees, is poised to lead the export market. In 2023, exports were valued at $36.9 million, mainly featuring the popular Montong variety and others like Musangking and Super Copper. Governor Rusdy Mastura highlighted the province's 1,634 hectares of land under Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and 10 packing houses. The region's port facilities and direct shipping capabilities, with a seven to nine-day transit to China, support this initiative. The expansion is expected to boost the local economy, enhance farmers' welfare, and reinforce Central Sulawesi's role in Indonesia's development.
