Dragon fruit cultivation on the rise in the state

In the past three years, dragon fruit cultivation has surged in Maharashtra, particularly in Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur districts. Previously an exotic fruit, it has become more affordable and popular among all sections of society due to increased cultivation. Farmers have invested heavily in dragon fruit farming, with initial high costs but long-term benefits, as the plant can produce for up to 20 years. Prices have dropped significantly from ₹200 per kg to ₹50-₹100 per kg, making the fruit accessible to more consumers. The fruit’s popularity is driven by its health benefits, nutrient content, and antioxidant properties.
