In May, the Welsh Government introduced a revised timeline for its Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS), now set to begin in 2026, reflecting its commitment to engaging with farmers and rural communities. A preparatory phase in 2025 will feature several support schemes, including the Habitat Wales Scheme, Organic Support Payment, and an extended Farming Connect program. A new Integrated Natural Resources Scheme will also launch, focusing on nature-based solutions across various scales. Additionally, a data confirmation exercise will be conducted to aid farmers in preparing for the Habitat Wales Scheme and the broader SFS. Cabinet Secretary Huw Irranca-Davies emphasized the government's ongoing support for farmers during the transition from the Basic Payment Scheme, aiming to ensure the sustainability of Welsh farming and rural communities.
