Nestlé is stepping up its sustainability efforts with the introduction of Star 4, a new high-yielding Arabica coffee variety. Developed in Brazil, Star 4 promises improved resilience and reduced carbon footprint, addressing climate change challenges and ensuring a stable coffee supply chain. This innovation comes as part of Nestlé’s broader strategy to mitigate environmental impacts in coffee production.
The company has also been advancing its sustainable practices with other varieties like Roubi 1 and 2, Robusta types that offer significant reductions in carbon emissions. Nestlé’s commitment includes initiatives such as planting shade trees, boosting soil health, and employing agroforestry practices to enhance carbon sequestration and biodiversity.
With a goal to cut 13 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030 and achieve 100% certified sustainable coffee and cocoa by 2025, Nestlé is leveraging technological advancements and strategic partnerships to drive its sustainability agenda. The company’s efforts are recognized globally, as evidenced by its top ranking in the 2023 Coffee Brew Index for coffee sustainability.
