The Global Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration Potential Map (GSOCseq) is a pioneering tool designed to estimate the potential for carbon storage in the top 0–30 cm of soil across agricultural areas. It assesses this potential under both "business as usual" practices and three sustainable soil management scenarios. The GSOCseq initiative, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), enhances expertise in modeling and mapping soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration through a participatory process. Version 1.1 of the GSOCseq map was developed with input from national experts appointed by FAO Member Nations, who created national maps using a bottom-up approach coordinated by FAO's Global Soil Partnership. This program aims to advance our understanding and ability to promote SOC sequestration, a critical component of combating climate change.
