Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) is a 10-year initiative designed to develop and implement sustainable farming practices to combat climate change. The program focuses on sequestering carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and delivering environmental benefits through a network of "living labs”.
These living labs bring together farmers, scientists, and other stakeholders to co-develop and test innovative farming practices in real-world conditions. Key principles include addressing farmers' needs, fostering diverse partnerships, and testing solutions locally. The innovation cycle involves co-development, testing, and evaluation, ensuring that solutions are practical and tailored to farmers' experiences.
The ACS program aims to enhance carbon storage and reduce emissions through practices like no-till farming and cover cropping, while also providing benefits such as improved soil health and water quality. Funded by Canada’s Natural Climate Solutions Fund, ACS contributes to the country’s greenhouse gas reduction targets, with a goal of achieving a 40-45% reduction below 2005 levels by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
