Objective: The Federal Government of Germany aims to achieve a sustainable agricultural sector by 2030 that balances economic viability with environmental responsibility. The Commission on the Future of Agriculture (ZKL) emphasizes aligning the entire agri-food sector with environmental protection and resource conservation.

Role of Organic Farming: Organic farming is key to this transformation. It offers solutions to biodiversity loss and climate change, providing benefits such as better water protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. The goal is for 30% of Germany’s agricultural land to be farmed organically by 2030.

Key Focus Areas

The 2030 Organic Strategy outlines four key approaches:

  • Fair compensation for organic farming’s societal benefits
  • Supporting organic food processing and increasing its presence in catering
  • Enhancing research, knowledge transfer, and infrastructure for organic farming
  • Addressing bureaucratic challenges

Main Actions: The strategy includes 30 measures to strengthen organic farming across the value chain. These include boosting organic breeding, promoting organic food processing in rural areas, and aligning EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with sustainability goals.

Participatory Approach: The strategy was developed through a multi-stakeholder process involving government, industry, academia, and the public to ensure broad participation and robust solutions for the future of organic farming.
