The Spatial Production Allocation Model
CGIAR | Source |
The Spatial Production Allocation Model (SPAM) helps map detailed crop production patterns using limited data. By integrating various sources, SPAM estimates crop distribution across 42 crops and two production systems at a fine spatial scale (10x10 km grid cells). This approach highlights spatial patterns of agriculture, offering insights for better-targeted rural development policies.
SPAM’s results can be overlaid with other data, like population density, allowing analysis of regions with shared characteristics. Policymakers, researchers, and organizations like IFPRI, CGIAR, and FAO use SPAM to inform strategies in agricultural development, food security, and climate resilience.
