FAO supports innovative finance facility for tropical forest conservation

September 23, 2025 | Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) |

FAO expressed support for Brazil’s newly proposed Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), a large-scale financing mechanism designed to mobilize USD 125 billion for tropical forest conservation. Brazil has pledged the first USD 1 billion, positioning the initiative as a centerpiece of its leadership ahead of COP 30 in Belém. A defining feature of the facility is its requirement that at least 20% of all funds go directly to indigenous people and local communities, recognizing their central role in forest stewardship. TFFF aims to combine public and private capital to enable predictable, long-term financing, while supporting community livelihoods, restoration, climate mitigation, and improved forest monitoring systems. FAO will continue technical engagement as governments and partners advance governance design and prepare for the COP 30 launch.
