Taiwan's Tea Research and Extension Station, under the Ministry of Agriculture, guided a tea farmer and Taiwan Agriculture and Forestry's Sun Moon Lake tea factory to complete the island's first carbon footprint verification for tea products, resulting in carbon labels. Officials said the certification builds a low-carbon production benchmark, helps growers optimize cultivation and processing, and improves consumer recognition of green products. The station provided one-stop guidance covering inventory boundary-setting, data collection, and emission-factor application, substantially lowering the application threshold and cost burden for farmers and processors, and plans to extend the model to other major tea-growing regions, alongside efforts to align with government green-procurement policy and build a lower-carbon supply chain for export markets.
