Taiwan’s Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation Projects achieved a 16.55% carbon reduction rate in 2025, surpassing the original 15% target across 1,562 completed projects. The assessment also identified construction materials as the largest source of emissions, accounting for 83.89% of the total, with concrete and steel among the major contributors. To further reduce emissions, Taiwan will promote low-carbon and recycled construction materials, reduce transportation distances, improve material-efficient design, and reuse excavated soil and stone on-site. Carbon management is also being integrated throughout project approval, design, construction, and completion, making emissions reduction part of routine rural infrastructure management.
