World off-track on nearly every food system goal, latest assessment reveals

Global food systems are falling far behind their 2030 goals. The 2026 Food Systems Countdown initiative, covering 197 countries and 44 indicators, finds that progress remains insufficient across health, environment, food security, governance, and resilience. Most strikingly, no country is projected to meet the 2030 target for food system greenhouse gas emissions at the current pace, with the global average still 75% away from the goal. While 2030 targets are increasingly out of reach, 2050 remains achievable if countries accelerate emissions reductions, improve food affordability, and strengthen governance and accountability.
