Carbon Trading on the Road: Taiwan Carbon Exchange introduced international carbon credits into local market, local carbon credits from agriculture and nature-based solutions are to be next

The Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCSE) listed its first batch of international carbon credits for trading in the local market at the end of 2023, including projects in renewable energy and clean water. Local landowners and farmers look forward to participate in carbon trading. Nevertheless, TCSE emphasizes the need for rigorous processes and methodologies for converting carbon remittances into tradable carbon rights. While Taiwan's agricultural sector holds potential for carbon sequestration, the high costs and complexity of the application process pose challenges. Development of methodologies tailored to local agriculture is underway, aiming to enable small farmers to participate in carbon rights projects and share the benefits.
