New digital hub to stimulate methane reduction through sustainable rice cultivation

Gold Standard and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have jointly launched the Rice Sustainability Hub, a resource center aimed at promoting sustainable rice production in Vietnam. With Vietnam being a major rice exporter and committed to reducing methane emissions, transitioning to sustainable rice farming practices is crucial. This initiative, supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), seeks to facilitate access to carbon finance for rice producers, thereby reducing methane emissions and creating new income streams for smallholder farmers. The hub, available on the Gold Standard for the Global Goals website, provides tools and resources not only for Vietnam but also for sustainable rice projects worldwide. By addressing the significant greenhouse gas emissions associated with rice production, this initiative aligns with global efforts to mitigate climate change and improve the livelihoods of millions of farmers. The hub emphasizes collaboration with farmers and offers support through information, training, and financial assistance, leveraging carbon finance as a means to drive sustainable agriculture.
